Back in 1983, Road Runner Sports founder Mike G., aka “Chief Runner”, was determined to be the best father he could be for his three young sons and his baby daughter who was on the way. Fueled by a love of health and fitness, Chief Runner brought Road Runner Sports to life out of a small garage in San Diego, CA.

From day one, we’ve been a family business, all about making customers feel like family. Even today, as we’ve become the world’s largest running and walking store, family remains at our core. Two of Chief Runner’s sons work in the business – our President Mike Gotfredson Jr, and his brother Mark, our Business Development Manager continue the family legacy.
